Pomelo – Pummelo
Citrus maxima or Citrus grandis, chinese grapefruit, shaddock, pomelo, pummelo, or pompelmous is one of the few non-hybrid citrus fruit.
This large citrus is an ancestor of the today's grapefruit. It is the largest of the citrus fruits with a shape that can be fairly round or slightly pointed at one end, almost pear shaped
The pummelo can range from cantaloupe-size to as large as a 25-pound watermelon. The skin is green to yellow and somewhat rough to the touch; the flesh color ranges from pink to rose. The rind is very thick and soft.
At The Rs Farm we enjoy Shaddock. It is eaten just as you would eat grapefruit. Per Royston "It is delicious eaten just like that."
This citrus is also great for making juice, jams, jellies, marmalades, syrups and of course the delicious shaddock candy.
